Formed in May 2012 Manchester Women’s Institute provides a modern take on the traditional W.I.
Our group is made up of women aged 18-60+ who come together to enjoy monthly meetings on all sorts of topics - we've had comedians, talked about women in politics & the music industry, turned our hands to burlesque, had a chocolate tasting evening, discussed journalism & thrown a Vegas party night. We've been on Manchester City Centre walking tours, visited the Printworks bee hives and listened to and written our own poetry - there's something for everyone!
Our committee and many sub groups have put together an exciting programme for 2019 which promises to include bakes, blogs, books, crafts, inspiring speakers, photography, the chance to learn new skills, cultural trips out & about and most of all a friendly, open and non judgemental environment to make new friends and get together with old friends too.
Last year marked 100 years since the first women were given the vote with the passing of the representation of the people act. To celebrate we teamed up with Runaway Brewery and launched a special Manchester W.I. x Runaway Brewery Lady Grey IPA . It was such a success that for International Women's day 2019 it'll be back in pubs across Manchester - watch this space for more details!
Each month we meet on the 4th Tuesday at 7.15pm in the Defiant event space at The Federation in Manchester City Centre. At every main meeting there's a speaker or an activity as well as a chance to catch up with other members over a cup of tea, a slice of cake and maybe even a tipple!
We hope to see you at a meeting soon!
