Lady Skillers: Batik Workshop
Time & Location
About The Event
Ever fancied creating your own pattern on fabric? Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing and this workshop will show you the basics of the technique! We will draw dots and lines in wax with a spouted tool called a tjanting and then use fabric dyes to create a beautiful bespoke piece of fabric that can be used as a wall hanging or as part of another creative project. The applied wax resists dyes allowing you to play with colour without it running into other parts of the design. During this workshop you will practice using the tjanting tool, draw and wax your own design and then utilise dyes to colour your master piece which will be framed to take home.
You are welcome to bring your own pictures- please have them printed on a sheet of A4 paper to allow easy transfer to the fabric. There will also be a collection of templates to choose from, birds, animals and mandala circles. This class is suitable for beginners and no prior skills are required. All you need is an interest in learning a new technique to create something bespoke and beautiful.
All materials are included in the £30pp price (plus paypal fees) and there will also be tea and cake!! Please consider wearing dark or old clothing when attending the event as fabric dye can spoil light coloured material.
